Proven results from live deployments protecting farmers and pastoralists across East Africa with verifiable climate data.
Each pilot demonstrates a different model for how decentralized climate data creates tangible value for vulnerable communities.
In partnership with Mercy Corps Ventures, Fortune Credit, and DIVA Technologies, Shamba deployed anticipatory cash transfers for 262 pastoralists across two Kenyan counties. Smart contracts held donated funds in escrow on Polygon, disbursing automatically when Shamba's oracle detected pasture conditions reaching distress levels via NDVI satellite data.
Working with Fortune Credit and DIVA Protocol, Shamba provided parametric insurance coverage to 150 cattle herders in Northern Kenya. Payouts were triggered automatically when vegetation levels (NDVI) fell below thresholds indicating livestock starvation risk — removing the need for manual claims assessment and enabling rapid disbursement during drought emergencies.
A groundbreaking pilot with Mercy Corps Ventures, BlockBima, Fortune Credit, and RiskShield that embeds parametric rainfall insurance directly into Fortune Credit's 5-day digital loans for MSMEs. When excess rainfall occurs, insurance automatically reduces the borrower's repayment obligation — no claims filing required. Multiple severity tiers ensure greater rainfall triggers greater loan coverage. Shamba feeds 30+ satellite and sensor data streams into the blockchain daily.
In Gatanga, north of Nairobi, Shamba partnered with local NGO YARD (Youth Action for Rural Development) to help smallholder farming communities issue their own carbon credits from organically grown fruit trees. Using Shamba's dMRV infrastructure, avocado farmers can now generate verifiable carbon credits for international markets — creating a new revenue stream that previously required costly manual audits.
Our pilot programs span multiple Kenyan counties, with plans to expand across the continent.
